Tropical Storm Fay injures Florida kiteboarder

The headline above might seem like common sense, but powerful, ocean-borne storms often provide the biggest waves and winds for watersports enthusiasts like windsurfers and kiteboarders. But huge thrills mean huge potential for danger, as one Florida kiteboarder (erroneously identified as a windsurfer) discovered while trying to cruise in the high winds of tropical storm Fay in full view of a local news camera crew (click for higher quality video).

"Phase winds" picked the boarder up, slammed him into the sand, dragged him for several yards and then picked him up again, yanking him across a busy highway before throwing into a building. He miraculously survived, but is listed in critical condition.

Be careful out there, Florida folks. Those storms are mean.
